How the Rhystic Marketplace Works

A practical guide to trade lists, wishlists, and marketplace listings — what you need to get started and why we ask for your location and contact details.

Rhystic is built for local Magic: The Gathering trading. The marketplace, your Trade List, and your wishlist work together so you can show what you have, what you want, and find players nearby who might want to trade.

This guide explains how each piece fits together, what you need to do to appear on the marketplace, and why those requirements exist.

Trade List vs wishlist

Trade List (have) Wishlist (want)
What it is Cards from your collection you are willing to trade Cards you are looking for
Where it lives Your Trade List binder in Rhystic The wishlist on your account

Your Trade List is the only list that makes you show up as a trader on the marketplace. Your wishlist helps you spot traders who have cards you want — and helps them see how many of your wants they can fill.

How the marketplace works

  1. Set up your profile — Add a verified trading location and keep your contact details current under Profile.
  2. Build your Trade List — Move cards you want to trade onto your Trade List binder with a quantity greater than zero. Manage this from Trade List or your collection.
  3. Add your wishlist — List cards you are looking for so Rhystic can highlight matching traders.
  4. Browse the marketplace — Open the Marketplace to see other traders, search by card name, and see how many of your wishlist items each trader can cover.
  5. Start a trade — View someone's shared Trade List, agree on a deal, then use Trade zones to record the swap in Rhystic. Both collections update when the host finalises the trade.

You can also browse all public lists from Browse trade lists without going through the marketplace index.

Requirements to browse the marketplace

You need a verified trading location in your profile before Rhystic will open the marketplace for you. We verify a general South African address (not your exact doorstep) so the feature stays focused on practical, local trading.

If your location is missing or cannot be verified, you will be sent to your profile to fix it first.

Requirements to appear on the marketplace

To show up as a trader other people can discover, you must meet all of the following:

  1. Verified trading location — Same as above. Without it, your Trade List can still be shared by link, but you will not appear in the marketplace trader list.
  2. Contact details — Your Rhystic account email, and a phone number in your profile if you want partners to reach you quickly. Trades happen between real people; unreachable listings waste everyone's time.
  3. At least one offerable card on your Trade List — A collection card on your Trade List binder with a trade quantity greater than zero. Cards only in your collection (not on the Trade List) or with zero trade quantity do not count.

Your Trade List binder is always public when you are listed. You cannot hide individual marketplace offers while remaining discoverable — keep quantities accurate and remove cards you are no longer offering.

Why these restrictions exist

We know requirements can feel like extra steps. They are deliberate:

  • Verified location keeps the marketplace oriented toward local players who can realistically meet or arrange delivery. It also reduces low-effort or misleading listings from accounts that never intended to trade in person.
  • Contact details mean that when someone finds a match, they can actually reach you. Rhystic sends trade notifications by email, but phone and profile details help you coordinate quickly.
  • Accurate Trade List quantities protect both sides. The marketplace only counts cards you explicitly marked for trade, so buyers are not surprised by "actually that is in a deck" responses.
  • Browsing requires your own location so the marketplace is a community of participants, not a read-only catalogue of other people's cards.

For how we handle your location and contact data, see our Privacy Policy. For the legal terms governing trades and listings, see our Terms and Conditions.

Tips to get more value from trading on Rhystic

  • Keep your Trade List fresh — Remove sold or reserved cards promptly.
  • Use your wishlist — Marketplace highlights traders who overlap with your wants.
  • Share your links — Send your public Trade List or wishlist URL to friends or your LGS group even if they are not browsing the marketplace today.
  • Run trades in a trade zone — When you agree on a deal, a trade zone updates both collections automatically after finalisation. You are still responsible for physically exchanging the cards.
  • Read the trading guide — Our Trading article covers trade zones, payments, and how Rhystic differs from payment apps.

What Rhystic does not do

  • We do not process payments between traders for cards. Trades are card-for-card; any cash on top is between you and your partner.
  • We do not guarantee card condition, authenticity, or delivery. Inspect cards and agree terms before finalising.
  • We do not mediate disputes about cards that never arrived or were not as described.

The marketplace is here to help you find trading partners and keep your digital collection in sync — the rest is the same trust and communication you would use at any trade night.
